CSIA ONTARIO BOARD OF DIRECTORS CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

Are you invigorated by the thought of shaping the ski industry’s future in Ontario?  

Are you inclined towards teamwork, event planning that captivates and inspires, and community service that makes a difference?

If dedicating approximately 20 hours a month to a mission you hold dear sounds like your calling, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.

In alignment with our established election procedures and By-Laws, CSIA Ontario invites nominations for positions on our Board of Directors, with terms commencing in June 2025. Details follow below. Should you have inquiries or feedback, please reach out via email to:  gov@csiaontario.com

The deadline for applications is April 21st, 2025.

We are also seeking individuals to get involved with various committees; Finance, Governance and Communications

DIRECTOR TERM

Directors sit for up to a three-year term, ending at the Annual General Meeting in the concluding year of the term, with the possibility of one re-election to a maximum of six consecutive years on the Board.

Deadline: Applications accepted on or before April 21, 2025

Incumbent Directors seeking re-election must receive a nomination from a Member or a continuing Board Director. 

The term for those elected at the June 2025 Annual General Meeting will initiate immediately after that meeting.

Prospective eligible nominees are invited to submit a résumé (max. two pages) complemented by a cover letter. Your cover letter should feature a concise personal statement delineating your interest and highlighting how your skills can help the CSIA Ontario board with its mandate.  Channel these documents to gov@csiaontario.com on or before April 21st, 2025 with the Subject “Nominating Committee”.

About CSIA ontario’s Board of Directors

The Role of the Board:
-Define and promote CSIA Ontario’s aims, consistent with the broader national vision.
-Serve CSIA members in Ontario, enhancing programs and services.
-Uphold legal compliance and ethical standards.
-Set the annual budget, oversee financial plans, ensuring fiduciary diligence.
-Develop and apply a strategic direction for CSIA Ontario.
-Manage and ensure sufficient resources prudently.
-Support and expand CSIA Membership within Ontario.
-Engage in director recruitment, orientation and evaluate Board effectiveness.

Responsibilities of a director

-Regular participation in Board meetings, typically on the second Monday evening monthly.
-Attending the Annual General Meeting and Awards Banquet set for June 20, 2025 and the Board planning session on June 21, 2025 at Hockley Valley Resort.
-Active involvement in at least one committee or task group.
-Preparation for, and active participation in, Board discussions and decision-making.
-Support substantive discussion and sound decision making so that the board fulfills its fiduciary responsibilities
-Fostering informed debate and contributing to robust governance.
-Advocating for CSIA Ontario and endorsing our objectives through active involvement.
-Fully support the CSIA’s goals by contributing to operational activities intended to deepen member engagement
-Adhere to the Director’s Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.

director eligibility

To apply, one must be:
-An individual
-Be a member in good standing of the Corporation
-A Canadian citizen or permanent resident, living in the Ontario region
-Be over the age of eighteen (18)
 
Exclusions apply to individuals:
-Not be a person who has been found under the Substitutions Decisions Act, 1992 (Ontario) or under the Mental Health Act (Ontario) to be incapable of personal care or managing property, or otherwise having been found to be incapable by any court in Canada or elsewhere.
-Not be an undischarged bankrupt, and be bondable
-Identified as ineligible by the Income Tax Act (Canada).
-Not be a director of Alpine Canada, of the Canadian Adaptive Snowsports, of the Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors, of the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors or any other organization designated by the Board.
-No member who is a principal, director, employee, advisor, member or contractor of any organization in competition with the CSIA in Canada shall be qualified for election or appointment as a director of CSIA Ontario.
-No member who is an employee of the CSIA shall be qualified for election of or appointment as a director of CSIA Ontario.

Desired Skills

CSIA Ontario is currently seeking Directors with strength in the following:
Governance, particularly past board or leadership roles within the non-profit sector.
Communications leveraging various platforms (web, email, social media, networking).
Financial acuity and business acumen
Member engagement, with a focus on retention, diversity, and inclusion.
Team building and consensus creation.
Leadership, with ambitions for future executive Board positions.
